Re: “Keep Tabs On Local Judges — Dallas Bar poll isn’t perfect, but it offers valuable insight about our local courts,” Thursday editorials.

Most Texans might not ever find themselves in a courtroom, but the judges and work that happens inside of them impact all of us.

Judges hold considerable power. Their decisions can set important legal precedents. They can uphold or overturn laws written by the Texas Legislature. It’s also their job to ensure all parties are treated fairly under the law.

The Dallas Bar Poll is one way voters can learn more about the work of the judges from the men and women spending the most time in their courtrooms.

Recent judicial transparency requirements passed by the Texas Legislature are another way to help shine the light on a judge’s experience and track record.

Voters would be wise to educate themselves on the judges on the ballot this year. Good judges matter, and they should matter to every Texan.
